I'm asked a alot about how to care for jewelry, so here's a quick guide

TOP TIPS ON CARING FOR .925 STERLING SILVER JEWELRY

♥ Wear your jewelry often! Naturally occurring oils in the skin help keep the silver ‘clean’ and shiny.

♥ Starve your silver jewelry of light and oxygen when not in use. Store in a ziploc bag and inside a dark dry place such as the gift box I provide. This slows down oxidization (tarnishing).

♥ Take off jewelry before you shower, swim or sunbathe! Contact with bath/shower products chlorinated water and bright sunshine all cause tarnish.

♥ Remember to remove jewelry before doing household chores. Many household chemicals, if they come in to contact with your jewelry, will cause tarnish.

♥ If you wear perfume, aftershave, body lotions or hairspray - allow them to dry completely before you put on your jewelry. Remember always to put your jewelry on last, and take it off first.

♥ For tarnished jewelry, use a specialist cloth made of high quality cotton impregnated with a silver cleaner and anti tarnish agent. Be sure the jewelry to be cleaned is free from dust and other abrasives before you start. I’ll add these to my ETSY store soon.

♥ Don’t use tissues to try to polish up your jewelry as they will cause scratches. Remember, silver is a relatively soft metal.

♥ If your pieces are heavily tarnished, old, or valuable, do take them to a professional silver cleaner.

Custom Work - Bacon!

The finished suite ready to debut at ‘Ribfest’

I have mentioned in previous posts that usually my jewelry acquires a name as it evolves... well this time there was an aroma too... I was smelling bacon for days...

Prototype sizzling away!
Ironically, this project came in at the same time as a Vegan Anklet Custom piece for another great customer, so I was very careful to keep both projects apart from each other on my bench, it just seemed the right thing to do.

My bacon client, who I’m looking forward to meeting one day, won’t mind me saying that she is one crazy lady when it comes to bacon.

I keep a lot of copper around to play with as it’s great to test things and play with as it’s quick to work with.  Seeing the copper and silver colours together gave me the idea for the bacon colours. I let the colours lead me, and came up with a prototype.

My client was very happy - I think “freakin great’ were her exact words. She decided to have earrings made as well as the necklace... and I have just finished a bacon bracelet too!

What’s next... A meaty .925 Sterling SilverT-Bone Steak  - I kid you not, stay tuned!

Here a few work in progress shots.

More filing and a final polish with rouge and mops before a tumble in the barrel machine to heighten that shine on the  .925 silver.
